A Jumbled-Up Post of My Thoughts........

I really stress the importance of having a feminine look. By feminine I do not mean exposed cleavage, dresses down to mid-thighs, etc.

I mean dresses or skirts that at least touch the knee, shirts that cover in an appropiate manner, etc.

The other thing is this, hairstyles. Some women today wear such masculine hairstyles ( and clothing ) that they'd look like a guy from behind.

And some " rock-star dudes " look like women from behind....eck....

I know some of what I'm about to say will probably offend some people, but please know I'm not attacking anyone for it, I'm stating my beliefs as to why I don't like the masculine hairstyles.

I think Yahweh wishes for women to appear like women and men to appear like men, it's that simple. I don't have anything against a guy who throws on a pink shirt. ( Unless that pink shirt is feminine. There's a difference between a masculine pink shirt and a feminine pink shirt. )

And I think some hairstyles ( on a woman )can define a way a woman is treated.

Goodness that was a jumbled-up post, but I hope everyone got the jist of what I tried to express.

What Have I Been Doing Lately?

I don't really know what I want to post, but starting off with sticky topics like " pixie haircuts " might offend some, yet isn't the head covering topic a sticky one? ;)

I suppose I should just blog about what's been going on these past two weeks.

Dad's had various doctor appointments, which means after we've dropped him off, we'd go shopping! ( Because his tests take a while. ) But with the last shopping trip we went on, it was stressful. ( That's due to having three younger siblings. :/ But I was in a cruddy mood too for being stuck at one store that Mom decided to go to first instead of another store because two of them had bad attitudes earlier. )

In these past two weeks, I've gotten one headscarf, two skirts, and a kind of maxi dress. ( By maxi I mean long. )

So, that's what I've been doing, and some schoolwork and chores. :)

Some More Head Coverings Pics

( I can't remember if I already uploaded some of these things or not. )

( I look like a Catholic nun, in a way, LOL )

A Picture I Love

Preparing for Sabbath

Sabbath is coming up! Goodness this week has flown by!

Well, needless to say, this week has been good. Schoolwork has been going good, and just life in general, except for Dad, who is experiencing some health issues at the moment. :/

Preparing for Sabbath means I need to scrub the tub ( not my favorite task ) and wash a LOT of laundry.

What will you be doing this weekend?

PS I got a haircut! As much as I like having long hair, I can't handle it properly ( I miss tangles, that grow in knots. ), but my haircut is still a feminine one.

A New Headscarf from Wal-Mart

This is a new headscarf I bought from Wal-Mart! ( There were more and I should've looked at them but.....here we go. )

I haven't wore the headscarf styles in months so this should be interesting. :)

Immodest Costumes, Part 1

I have decided to upload of pics of my immodest dance costumes I've worn.
Booty shorts ( Thank you God I don't have to wear them again! )

You see how daddgum short these things are?! Ack! Yahweh forgive me....

I will try and upload the pic of the costume for my jazz routine later.

Influences-TV, Immodest Clothes, Argh!

As I watch TV ( which I'm considering cutting down on certain channels due to inappropiate attire and non-Christian things ), I see women and teenagers dressing in inappropiate ways, and it " influences " me to want to dress like them! I feel this strange tug to dress like them, put on fancy jewelry, and wear sparkly heels!

Now, I'm not saying that there's anything exactly wrong with jewelry and sparkly heels, but I don't feel like for me it'd put off the wrong image. I want to dress like a traditional Christian teenager would, and not in a way that would disrespect my body. ( I say " traditional " because some Christians nowadays act very worldly and modern. )

So, I must realize, that what's on TV isn't necessarily right, and that the Devil will try to push things in my face in hopes that I will disobey Yahweh.

What Is Your Favorite Style of Head Covering?

What is your favorite style of covering? Amishy kapp style, Muslim-like head scarf, bun cover, veil, or another style? If you feel comfortable explaining, would you explain why you wear a particular style?

Thanks! :)

Something I Wouldn't Want To Admit To Others

Ick, I've had strep since Saturday, and today I'm finally feeling " totally here " and not " like I'm floating around in a dream ". ( <----the last feeling probably came from the cough medicene I took. ) Sunday was probably the worst day, but today I'm feeling well enough to do some more chores, lol.

I realized that I would be ashamed to admit ( and wouldn't want to admit ) to modest-dressing females ( or anyone for that matter! ) that I'm a dancer. I know I'm a hypocrite, yet I know my confession would change other's view of me dramatically.

Anyway, competition is next month. These next five ( possibly four if we don't qualify for Nationals ) months are going to be fun, I hope. I just feel shamed now everytime I think of our immodest costumes, argh! :( I hate the feeling of being trapped.

Watching these figure skaters makes me want to keep performing! Augh!

Watching ice skating on TV makes me wonder if I should really continue to pursue this " extreme " modest clothing thing and just keep performing until I'm 18. Seeing Ashley Wagner ice skate is inspiring, LOL.

Yet I know that not wearing my modest dress and head coverings would grate on my conscience. Two, financially it would help my parents ( despite what they say ) if I didn't do dance again after this dance year ends. Three, I'm asthmatic, and even though I've danced all these years, it's relentless.

I recall when we were practicing before we went on stage last year for recital, and the dance we were practicing was tap. Tap has especially been excruciating on my lungs, but I can usually get through it and take a puff of my inhaler when I'm done. But while we were practicing, I couldn't finish out the end, I was too out of breath. I raced to my bag and got my inhaler. :/

Jazz, one of my all-time favorites, hasn't been nice to my lungs either, but I've dealt with it best I can. My parents love it when I perform, and in making this decision not to take dance again, I wonder if my dad doubts my seriousness in my decision.

I don't know if I go into asthma attacks or not when I get off stage or I finish practicing. I don't have a good idea of what an asthma attack really is, because most of them have occurred in my sleep, and I've only woke up twice during them. ( I can't dinguish the difference between just being out of breath and experiencing a full-blown asthma attack unless I'm waking up while I have one. )

Anyway, enough explaination about my current state of health, I need prayer: Pray that watching performances won't tempt me into continuing dance for a few more years. This is becoming harder.

Thanks. :) And may Yahweh bless your day, your family, and your life.

Ever Reconsidered?

I sometimes reconsider my head covering and modest dress. Has anyone else felt that feeling? " Wouldn't it be fine if I have my head uncovered ( but with a ponytail maybe ) and put a pair of jeans on? " I ask myself sometimes.

Uh, no.

Heck no.

When I feel this way, I'm either encouraged by 1. Pictures on the internet of modest dressing and head covering women. 2. Other modest dressing/head covering women in my town. And, I'm beginning to become encouraged by the amount of hits I get on my blog. :) ( I rarely view my blog so I can try and get an estimate of how many people are reading it. )

Do not be discouraged by the immodesty, sisters! Stay strong. :)

Yahweh's blessings.

5 Months Is A Really, REALLY Long Time......

These next five months may feel like infinity. While I'm going to enjoy them, I'm going to be SUPER GLAD when they're over. ( I'll be blogging along the way. :) And afterwards of course. )

I was thinking about posting some of my dance costumes and my dance practice attire on here ( none too revealing ), just to give you a general idea of what we're given to perform in. Then I'd post pictures of my modest attire and head coverings to compare. ( Maybe a dance pic on one side and a modest dress pic on the other side. )

What do y'all think?

Honoring My Body

Since I've began dressing in a feminine, modest manner, it has given me a new way of looking at clothing. I've seen way too many immodest fashions accepted by Christians and pulled into the church. But I'm not going to go into another long diatribe about how some girls and women alike dress like prostitutes in church, instead I'm going to reflect on my personal decisions.

Ok, here we go. Imagine for a moment a teenage girl clad in knee-length ( cloth ) leggings, shorts, and a t-shirt ( a short-sleeve one, perhaps the front low enough to reveal the collarbone and some of the chest. ). Now, if you're a male, how would you treat her?

Now, imagine a girl in a knee-length skirt, a short-sleeve shirt, but one that covers a lot of chest and the collarbone, and a head covering.

How would you treat her?

Which for me is respecting my body? Evidently the latter. For me, donning leggings with shorts don't make the shorts more modest, because the leggings still show the figure of my legs, whereas a regular skirt does not.

These are my personal modesty standards for the public eye and how I respect my body.

May Yahweh bless you and shower his blessings upon you.

Any questions or personal comments you'd like me to hear? Either comment on this post or email me at modestygeek@gmail.com

Dance

I am now firm in my decision to make this my last dance year. There have been some doubts since I first came to the decision, but now, I feel that my decision is right.

If we qualify for Nationals, this dance year will last until June, which is when we'll perform. If we don't, the last dance month will be in May, when we have our recital.

Being An Encouragment To Others

I find it extremely encouraging when I spot other women, teens, girls wearing modest, feminine clothes ( like skirts and dresses ) and it even excites me to see those that wear head coverings. :) It reminds me that I'm not alone in my journey.

Just remember: If you wear modest, feminine clothes ( and some of you also might wear a head covering. ), it can be an encouragment to others who are trying to do the same thing.

Modest Attire and Head Coverings-Oppression? I Don't Think So

I fear that....people ( ones who don't wear head coverings or modest dress )sometimes tend to think that we teens ( or girls, women, whatever age of female is reading this blog )are forced into wearing the head covering; that the head covering is a sign of " oppression ".

Yes, I'm aware that is something you'd most likely hear from a Muslim women, but I think the Christian head covering/modest dressing females can say that also.

I, for one, am not oppressed. I chose modest, feminine clothing on my own, and the head covering also. My parents did not tell me to wear a head covering, and while I am taught to wear modest clothing; I switched over to the skirts and dressed by my own choice.

But while you are reading this post, I don't want you to be thinking that every woman, teen, and girl covers from her own choice. I simply don't think that to be true. I do think some females are probably " forced " to wear a head covering, but you really have to educate yourself about why we wear head coverings.

Just my thoughts.

Modesty

( disclaimer: I do not post to offend other people or force my beliefs on others. I am simply stating my beliefs and opinions, you, dear reader, have the right to agree or disagree with me. )

I have a problem with females ( women, teens, young girls ) just throwing on whatever they can pull out of their wardrobe without giving a thought as to whether it's 1. Too tight. 2. Revealing. 3. Provocative. Some don't give a rat's behind about their attire, but I also know some simply don't know how their clothing looks on them.

Our bodies are a temple of our Creator, and we should respect them.

Modesty isn't something that's widely promoted in our culture; rather immodesty and provocativeness. Many are blinded by the media, current fashions, etc.

Now, that being said, there are some females who do wear modest clothing. They have respect for their bodies, and don't flash a lot of skin. ( I'm not talking about a burqa here, I'm talking about a skirt versus booty shorts. )

Head coverings? Yes, there are some non-Amish, non-Mennonite females who do don a head covering, yet unless you live in an Islamic communitity you are unlikely to see many head covering women.

I'm a Hypocrite

I have been looking around on the internet for other head covering blogs, and I must admit, I have found a few interesting ones. But it caused me to think more about my current situation:

As most of you probably know by now, I'm a dancer. I've been dancing since I was....maybe 7, and this is my.....3rd or 4th year of competiting. The problem??

Immodesty.

We keep our hair up in ponytails most of the time when we dance because our teachers don't want our hair to...well..." blind " us, you could say, while we're dancing. But the costumes aren't appropiate in my mind if I continue to wear head coverings and modest dress.

So what am I going to do?

I really hope that I'll have the strength to " quit " dance ( not take it again ) after it ends in May or June. But there's a Disney trip coming up next term and I REALLY want to go. ( We've performed there once. )

Right now, I really feel like the Devil is working against me here, tempting me to continue dance. But I feel like a hypocrite dancing in immodest costumes but still wearing a head covering and modest dress in daily life.

Against SOPA!

Like this blog post if you're against SOPA. ( I can't figure out how to get my blog to black out. )

Treat Me Like A Normal Person, But With Respect

When I wear a head covering, I don't want to be ostracized for my mode of dress. I want people to treat me like they'd treat other, non-covering people, but with respect.

People shouldn't whisper, stare in a rude manner, or make fun of women/female teens/girls who wear a head covering, whatever style it may be. For some of us it hurts to see people judging us, some judge out of ignorance.

Respect people, respect Jewish women, respect Muslim women, respect Catholic women, respect everyone. Just because someone is different doesn't mean they're strange.

Then turn it around: If someone was making fun of you or you heard them whispering about you, how would you feel?

Treat a covered woman ( or teen or young girl ) with the same respect you'd give to your best friend or your mom.

An Interesting Video

I just found this cool video on Youtube about some reactions this Christian lady got about her head coverings. Reactions To The Head Covering

An Important Lesson-Don't Force Your Beliefs On Others

Throughout my journey with the head covering, I have learned that trying to force your ways on others will not make them want to follow what you're following ( or in this case, wear what you wear ).

When I first began wearing a head covering and dressing modestly, I was incredibly naive. I tried getting my sister to wear more modest clothing, and even discussed the 1 Corinthians verses with her ( not that there's anything wrong with that ) but I realized that 1. I have my own beliefs. 2. If I expect people to respect my beliefs, I have to respect theirs. 3. Not everyone will agree with you! Luckily Mom has been nice enough to " agree to disagree ".

I don't know if some of my readers know this, but when I first started wearing a head covering, it was out of modesty. I don't think at the time I was even aware of the 1 Corinthians verses talking about the head covering! Overtime though I learned about these verses, researched about them, and in the end I agreed with them. ( Though, not everyone will. )

An important lesson? Don't try and force your beliefs on others. It will not make them want to learn about what you believe or wear what you wear.

Chuckie Cheeses and Muslim Head Coverings ( 12 23 11 )

Yesterday after myself, my younger sister, and my brother ( my toddler sis hasn't had a dentist appt.yet ) got out of the dentist, we went to Chuckie Cheese's. Not that we exactly planned on it but we were looking for McDonald's, lol.

While we were there ( and my mouth still numb, could barely taste the slice of pizza I was attempting to eat. It's difficult when one side of your mouth is numb and the other is completely normal! ) three Muslim women walked in. I don't hate Muslims or anything, and I actually like their covering style ( the hijabs and so on. ).

What really inspired me was their having fun playing games with their husband ( or brother ) and not caring as to whether others stared or not.

I used to be so self-conscious of myself ( and sometimes I still am! ) but I came to realize that just because I wear a head covering doesn't mean I'm some kind of alien from outer space. My head covering doesn't make me a " different " person ( a different person as in not a human being, not quite sure how to explain that. ). I'm normal, just like everyone else, but I just dress differently.

Muslim Head Coverings-Bans and All

Before I start rambling on here I want to get one thing straight: I respect Muslim women in their choice to wear any form of head covering, hijab or niqab, even if I don't agree with it. I don't hate Muslims, for Yahweh tells us to love everyone. Now, onto my post.

Some of you are probably aware of the Muslim face veil ban in Canada. ( Here's the first woman to be jailed for wearing one: Woman Jailed for Wearing Islamic Veil ) I haven't formed my entire opinion of it yet, but here's what I am currently thinking: Toy masks are used for robberys, why not ban them? People talk about the niqab and burka " When it was introduced, he said the ban was aimed at stopping criminals – from terrorists to shoplifters – disguising their faces from security staff and CCTV. ". I know that they can be used in robberies, or used by terrorists, but something's missing here, and I'm not sure I know what. I'll figure that out later...

Also, I believe people have been given a misrepresentation as to why the Muslim veils are put on. I know some Muslim women are undoubtedly forced into wearing one, but aren't some Christian women also? I find it strange that when I type in " head covering " on the Google search engine under News, all I find them talking about is the Muslim head coverings and face veils. Why not the Christian ones? Why aren't stories about Christian girls in schools not being allowed to wear a head covering being put on there? In my personal, biased opinion I think the world focuses entirely too much on the Muslim head and face coverings.

Just my two cents. Comments? ( Muslim women please come forward too and comment if you wish )

A Quick Thought

When it talks about in the Bible when Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah, people wonder how he got tricked into marrying her. But I wonder, could she have been wearing a Bedoudin veil/burka? I know there was a different culture back then.

Comments?

Just A Quick Post

I am at the dentist and might have to have the tooth filled. Please pray that I won't be too nervous. ( I always get nervous idk why. ) But my hands are getting really red and it may be a combo of nerves and a soap allergy.

A Facebook Page!

My New Facebook Page! :)
The Head Covering Geek

Head Covering-Wearing It In Front of The Family For The First Time?

I wanted to share my experiences about wearing a head covering with family, especially for those of you who are visiting family for the holidays and are covered for the first time.

As some of you probably know, I'm going over to my aunt and uncle's soon. Besides them and my immediate family, my grandparents will probably be there. This will be the first time ( in person ) that they've seen me cover, since my pics on Facebook are ( mostly ) of me covered.

Truth is, if I wear a kerchief I'll be plain scared , and while there's nothing wrong with that, I need to get over it and pray for strength. It is definitely difficult if some ( or all! ) of the family members are outspoken.

When I wore my covering for the first time in front of some second and first cousins ( I don't exactly remember which, I'm not good with remembering who qualifies as a first, second, or third cousin, lol ), the adult never commented on it. The younger was is a child, 10 years of age. Though she didn't say it to my face, she did mention something about it to my younger sister ( not in a good way. I think my sister told me that the younger cousin said something about it being weird. I'll have to ask my sister.... ).

My point? While being covered in front of family members for the first time, we can ask Yahweh for strength, and He will give it to us. :)

Yahweh bless!

Head Covering-A Short Post at Being Stared At

My experiences with wearing the head covering haven't always been entirely pleasurable, with the way people stare sometimes, but that doesn't mean that when you throw on a head covering that people are (always) going to be staring rudely at you like a hunter stares at his hunted, some people actually smile. :)

Don't ever let bad experiences with the head covering discourage you from wearing the head covering. The devil will attack you repeatedly, but you must prevail over that scummy beast and obey Yahweh. :)

Yahweh bless!

Another Post About The Head Covering

As a teenager, I do face a lot of different situations and problems, but when you throw the head covering into the mix, it gets even more difficult.

Needless to say, not all of my friends and family have been supportive, or polite for that matter. But it's expected,I suppose.

If you're a teenager, even an adult, and you're facing persecution because of the head covering, here's a few tips: 1. Pray. 2. Comment on this post that you need prayer and I'll pray for you. 3. Try and let people's comments slide off your back like water slides off a duck's back, but if it gets too out of hand, nicely tell them to stop ( but in different words. You decide what is best. )

Wearing a Head Covering Full Time or Just in Church?

I have often debated ( within myself ) whether the head covering is just suppposed to be worn in a church setting or all the time.

My perspective? I think Paul ( in the Bible )was commanding us females to wear the head covering in the church, but since you are praying in church, and you pray when you're not in church, doesn't that mean we should wear a head covering at any time during prayer, whether in the church or in public?

I'm not going to go into the topic of married women wearing a head covering to save the glory of their hair for their husbands in this post, but no matter the style or length of covering, I'm convicted to wear a head covering when I'm praying. And it gets awkward to pop a head covering on every time you want to pray.

But I'm a dancer, and we wear our hair in a ponytail, not a bun. I'm not sure if I could ask my teacher if I could wear my hair in a bun while I'm performing so I could put a bun cover on and still be observing the head covering.

Just a dilemna within myself and something I wanted to share.

Yahweh bless!

PS How's your week going?
